JUSTIN TOWNES EARLES 2014

Americana troubadour Justin Townes Earle has announced he will return to Australian shores for the first time in over eighteen months and will play national dates in October 2014 including a headlining performance at the new Americana celebration festival, Out On The Weekend, in Melbourne.

Earle is no stranger to our land. As The Music put it in 2013 “Justin Townes Earle may as well get a dog and an apartment as he has become such a frequent flyer to Australia.” He likes it here. He likes the people and he likes our country and has done since his first trip down under in 2008 and has gone on to rack up six incredible tours in as many years and played sold out shows to a devoted and ever growing appreciative audience.

Performing for the first time in Australia with his full band Earle will showcase his new album Single Mothers and playing songs from his four previous, and critically acclaimed, albums – The Good Life, Midnight at the Movies, Harlem River Blues and Nothing’s Gonna Change the Way You Feel About Me Now – Earle will head to Perth and Adelaide for the first time since April 2012 as part of his national tour.

Single Mothers is comprised of ten tracks that showcase exactly why Justin Townes Earle is considered a forefather of Contemporary Americana. As a recently married, sober man JTE writes from a point of maturity and content we’ve not seen before on past records. “One day I just realized it’s not cool to die young, and it’s even less cool to die after 30,” Justin laughs as he reflects on a life past and his new found clarity. What he’s created is an album that’s raw, honest and personal in a way he hasn’t touched upon since his debut EP, Yuma

Supporting will be Canadian Lindi Ortega who returns to Australia for the second time in 2014 after blowing away audiences at Boogie and National Folk Festivals and sold out shows in Sydney and Melbourne in April. Her latest album Tin Star has received critical acclaim the world over with Beat Magazine stating, “Every article about Lindi Ortega raises reference to Emmy-Lou Harris or Dolly Parton. This is not hyperbole. She really is that good”. And opening the shows will be New Zealand singer songwriter Marlon Williams who was names by Rhythms magazine as an Artist to watch in 2014 and described as “the impossible love child of Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison and Townes Van Zandt.”

If you have one night out this year, make sure you spend it with JUSTIN TOWNES EARLE, LINDI ORTEGA and MARLON WILLIAMS.

“Earle isn’t a folk singer, country singer, blues or soul singer; he is all of the above and one of those reliably great live performers with an impressive catalogue of songs to draw from.” – The Music 2013
“Road trips are made for nights of music this good.” – The Music 2013
“That a man can hold centre stage for near to two hours is testament to the charisma and talent of
Justin Townes Earle.” – The Dwarf
