LINDI ORTEGA 2014

Presented by Love Police & Heartstop Music

Fresh from her nomination for ‘Best Roots’ & Traditional’ album at the 2014 JUNO Awards, Canadian Lindi Ortega will give Australian audiences a chance to see why she is regarded as one of the most exciting new acts in Country music, with headline shows in Melbourne and Sydney and appearances at Gumball, Boogie Festival and National Folk Festival to support the release of her acclaimed new album ‘Tin Star’.

“…she has displayed the voice of a young Emmylou Harris just discovering Dolly Parton, the willingness to be as old-fashioned as possible in sound and style, and a 21st-century knowing edge.” Sydney Morning Herald

‘Tin Star’ has garnered praise the world over in recent months. Entertainment Weekly called it “one of the finest albums of the year in any genre”, The Guardian labelled it Ortega’s “breakthrough set” and The Telegraph featured her alongside Taylor Swift as the artists leading “a new wave of Nashville singers who made the country capital hip again”. (Ortega has called Nashville home since 2011)

Produced by Grammy-nominated David Cobb (Shooter Jennings, Jason Isbell, George Jones), Tin Star sees Ortega touch on the classics country themes of loneliness, unrequited love, crumbling relationships and primal desire, all the while letting her contemporary twist on traditional country shine through.

“Tin Star is like an ode to a time when checked shirts could be worn without a matching hipster beard. Ortega sings with both a little tremor and a strong suggestion of space around her, but can slice that space up with a searing guitar and some stomping drums. She can pitch vulnerable, but pull it back with a line in subtle toughness and do it all with a hooded-eyed semi-acoustic guitar.” Sydney Morning Herald

It follows last year’s Polaris Prize long-listed ‘Cigarettes and Truckstops’ and Ortega’s 2011 two-time Juno Award-nominated debut ‘Little Red Boots’. Ortega prolific recording output is only matched by her equally relentless touring schedule. She has been on the road non-stop since 2011, building an army of followers that lead to her selling out major venues all around the US, Canada, UK and Europe on the ‘Tin Star’ international release tour.

Now Australia can see what all the fuss is about, when Ortega plays two intimate solo shows in Melbourne on April 22nd and Sydney on April 24th.

‘Tin Star’ will be released physically on March 28th through Last Gang Records.
