WILLIE WATSON
And he’s back! It’s been six years since Willie Watson played our Australian stages and due to popular demand, we welcome the folksinger, storyteller and troubadour back to our shores.
For over two decades, Willie Watson has made modern folk music rooted in older traditions. Hailing from Watkins Glen in upstate New York, the legendary founding member of Old Crow Medicine Show – one of the most respected bands within the realm of modern Americana – will bring his rucksack of feelgood songs and stories to the East Coast of Australia this October.
From releasing the gem of an album Folk Singer Vol. 1 in 2014 to the follow up, Folk Singer Vol. 2 in 2017, Willie went on to explore the silver screen, playing The Kid in the Coen Brother’s film The Ballad of Buster Scruggs where he sang the Oscar-nominated song When A Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings. What a legend.
From his early days with Old Crow Medicine Show, to his current work as a solo artist, Willie is a celebrated musician with a rich vocal range, a top interpreter of the folk canon and a highly skilled multi-instrumentalist. We love him. Go see this show.
Mining the same old timey field as Willie but with a stronger pre-war blues influence, Kentucky's NAT MYERS is a genuine up and comer who has only just released his first album. Discovered by Black Keys frontman and Easy Eye Sound Records' owner Dan Auerbach, Myers is an authentic new blues voice, an Asian-American who has found a voice for himself in the poetry of age-old African-American musical traditions.
