JOE PUG 2012

Some foreign visitors to Australian shores strike up an immediate affinity with the country. Take emerging young Chicagoan troubadour Joe Pug, for instance.

Since his inaugural visit Down Under in November 2010 the singer-songwriter has already come back twice for more – hitting the road with such names as Justin Townes Earle and Wagons, and playing the prestigious Port Fairy Folk Festival – and now, almost precisely two years since he first wowed Aussie audiences with his heartfelt muse, he’s announced a fourth Australian trip which will find him headlining shows up the east coast and finishing his run at the burgeoning Mullumbimby Music Festival.

And, excitedly for fans, this time Pug will be armed with a swag of new material from his newly released sophomore album, The Great Despiser. Overseen by in-demand producer Brian Deck (Modest Mouse, Iron & Wine, The Grates, Gomez, Califone) and featuring a guest appearance from The Hold Steady’s Craig Finn, The Great Despiser is a natural extension of the flair shown on Pug’s acclaimed 2010 debut long-player The Messenger, which introduced fans all over the world to his narrative-driven songwriting and impassioned delivery.

Supporting Joe will be 7 piece string band Little Bastard who are proudly coining a new genre; ‘party-country’. Incorporating mandolin, banjo and fiddle, over the top of a pulsating upbeat acoustic rhythm, their live performances create the turbulence of Old Crow Medicine Show but with a brash clout all their own.

So if you like your music both intimate and interesting and are open to the possibility of learning something about yourself in the process, then catch Joe Pug when he hits Australian stages this November – you never know when he’ll next be back. Proudly brought to you by Love Police Touring.
